The Effects of Steroid, Barbiturate, and Calcium Channel Blocker on Forebrain Ischemic Rats

Abstract
lschemic brain damage may occur as a consequence of such diverse condition as lung and heart disease, shock, or hypotensive anesthesia. There are many reports to prevent or treat is- chemic brain damage. But there are no definite method for prevention or treatment.
We compared the effects of drugs, steroid, barbiturate. and calcium channel blocker by using forebrain ischemic rats.
The results are as follows,
1) There were no significant difference between control and steroid pretreated group in the aspect of degree of neuronal damage following cerebral ischemia.
2) The experimental group pretreated with barbiturate shows significant decrease of the neuronal damage at the hippocampus CAI(p$lt; 0.05).
3) The nimodipine pretreated group also shows significant decrease of the neuronal damages at the hippocampus CAI(p$lt;0.05).
